Adventures for visitors with special needs

Our zoo should be a place of experience and recreation for everyone, and so it is our aim to provide unique experiences for target groups with special needs as well. We therefore offer special guided tours for older people, people with special physical needs or in foreign languages.

We would be happy to plan a personalised visit to the zoo with you. Our colleagues look forward to your personal visit to our Central Visitor Service every day between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm and will be happy to advise you on all aspects of our wide range of services. During this time, you can also reach us by telephone on 0203-604 44251 or by email at servicebuero@zoo-duisburg.de

Guided tours for senior citizens

Groups of senior citizens are cordially invited to take a varied walk through the tree-lined zoo in a relaxed atmosphere. For one-and-a-half hours, one of our expert zoo keepers will tell you all about zoo life and, of course, about the zoo's animals. After the guided tour, the visit to the zoo ends in an easy-going manner with coffee and cake in the Africa Lodge. This event is also suitable for wheelchair users. If required, a limited number of wheelchairs can be provided.

Our guided tour for senior citizens takes place once a month, please see our calendar of events for the exact dates. Prior registration is required.

Zoo tours for people with dementia

A fixed circular route is part of the Zoo's special tours for people with dementia. It leads to individual animal species (well-known, popular, characteristically familiar) and is accompanied by zoo staff who have been trained for this task by the Alzheimer Society. The guided tour lasts about an hour and ends with coffee and cake in a friendly atmosphere. The number of participants is limited to 6-8 people with dementia and their companions. The groups are accompanied on site by a contact person from the Alzheimer's Association. The tours always take place on the last Thursday of the month from March to October.

Participation is free of charge for visitors with dementia. The entrance fee for the accompanying person, including coffee and cake, is 25 euros. Registration is possible through the office of the Alzheimer Society Duisburg. Unfortunately, we cannot accept participants who have not registered or those who are unaccompanied.

For further information and to register for the guided tour, please contact the Alzheimer Society Duisburg on 0203-3095-104.
